We were excited when start-up company Hephalump appointed Wired Media to create their first ecommerce website. Our brief from Hephalump was to develop a well-branded, search engine and user friendly site that allowed them to sell their personalised greetings cards and gifts.
The project certainly wasn’t challenge-free; scaling was a massive obstacle. The site had to cope with massive traffic spikes in short bursts around key occasions such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Father’s and Mother’s Day. Offers on sites such as Groupon also provided much traffic in short time frames, and the website had to manage this, whilst still providing a great user experience.
Hephalump’s main proposition is bespoke cards, so the other hurdle was to ensure fantastic print quality and high definition images.
Research was key; we examined the market and Hephalump’s competitors, and really drilled down to the core brand identity and values. It was pivotal that we ran workshops with the client so that they understood how the ecommerce site would function, so we could guarantee that we met all of their expectations.
This insight led us execute a logo and brand guidelines that enabled us to create wireframes and visuals for the website. We successfully developed the website in PHP , based on the Symfony framework. We also created bespoke card personalisation software required to allow card personalisation and also produced high quality print-ready outputs.
Hephalump were thrilled when their new site was launched in mid-2010 and has experienced growth upon growth ever since. The client was further delighted when conversion rate exceeded industry standards. Wired Media continue to add new features and functionality to the website with the most recent addition being photo uploads.
